Take Off the Mask Blog Tour
Who I’ve Become is NOT who I AM, is Sonya Visor’s first non-fiction book. Her passion is to minister to the people who hide behind masks. Sonya’s calling is to break and destroy the yokes of bondage, releasing the power of God into the lives of others by the preached Word and prayers of deliverance. When you can find the strength, to step into who you truly are; you can find the strength to BE THE (Tru U). TruU Ministries is the women’s ministry that God has charged her with to help other’s become free.
Sonya shares her heart with her husband, Pastor Tony Visor, who she calls her better half, for nineteen years. She and her husband have ministered effectively in the city of Racine together at NCC since 1999. Sonya is blessed to love two sons, Jason and Tony, Jr. Visit her online at sonyavisor.com.
Sonya, tell us about yourself.
Sonya Visor is a woman who is passionate about seeing hurting women and men be healed by helping them to take off the mask. She is a co-pastor, inspirational speaker, author, playwright, and founder of TruU Ministries.
What type of jobs or careers have you worked in the past?
Let’s see, I’ve been a cake and cookie decorator in my earlier years, a customer service representative, data entry clerk, stock clerk, secretary and sales coordinator, just to name a few.
Who are your favorite authors?
I love to read different books, but my favorite genre is the Christian Fiction. I have several favorite authors but I will name a few: Vanessa Miller, Kendra-Norman Bellamy, Linda Hudson-Smith and Kimberly Roby.
What are your favorite books?
Oh my goodness, I have too many to list! But, I will tell you how a book is classified as a top pick for me. You ready? Okay, now if the author causes me to search myself; by seeing things through the eyes of the characters while laughing out loud or shedding tears – it’s in there!
When did you begin to realize you wanted to write?
I’ve always enjoyed reading since elementary school, it wasn’t until high school when I took the Journalism course that I realized it was truly a part of me.
Tell us about your journey to publication.
I started thinking seriously about writing when the youth at a church I attended needed a fundraiser! They decided on doing a play and selling tickets! That was my first play, Left Behind, and it was sold out with rave reviews! My juices were stirred, but I realized I had a long way to go to learn the art of writing. I am definitely not there yet, but I’ve been blessed to have my first piece, The Check for $3.96, published in Blended Families, an anthology, compiled by Valerie Coleman and published by Pen of the Writer Publishing Co. My story, Love me for Who I Am, was included in the Midnight Clear, an anthology compiled by Kendra Norman Bellamy and published by KNB Publication.
Are you a full-time writer? If so, describe your day?
I am not a full-time writer at this time, but soon I will be full-time with writing and the TruU ministry. There are some JEWELS out there who need to have their true person unveiled.
Who are you when nobody’s looking? It’s time to take off what hides who you truly are…the mask! Are you tired of going around family, friends and church folk with a frozen smile and a broken heart? Unmask your true identity and learn your real name as pastor’s wife and playwright Sonya Visor cuts to the heart with dynamic testimony of sexual molestation at a young age.
BEING SILENT GAVE POWER to the hands that touched her life. Can hands meant to protect you also have the power to crush your identity? YES! But when we stop allowing a mask of shame to hold us captive with CLOSED mouths, WE CAN let Jesus be real in our lives.
Discover who you have become and embrace who you really are in a book that goes past the pews and what other’s think about you — to bring glory to God by being transparent and transformed. It’s time to take off your mask and let the true you show up!

Vanessa,
Thanks for saying that it’s a call. Because there’s no way I’d be out here like this for all the world to see LOL.. The first part of the book is pretty raw, but then we deal with masking and other things.
I hope you had a chance to listen to Chapter 7, that is one of my favorites. Although, I love Bethany as well, who is a character in the story.
It is definitely time to be free!
Again, thank you for your encouragement!
Sonya
Hi Vanessa! Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. We appreciate it!
Thank you for being YOU! And thank you for telling us your story. It takes a strong woman to tell your testimony and I thank God for you. I thank you for breaking the cycle of “fakeness” and “churchiness” in the house of the Lord. I hope and pray that all that reads this book will take it and apply it to their lives!
