I’m a Christian Inspirational Author and Lifestyle blogger “Aleysha’s Lifestyle Cafe”. So far, I’ve written four books, and working on my fifth project. I’ve been writing since I was a pre-teen, and I’ve always enjoyed doing it. I live in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and fellowship at the great First Baptist Church of Glenarden.
What books are on your nightstand or you recently read?
I’m actually reading Steve Harvey’s “Straight Talk, No Chaser”. It’s a book that I received as a Christmas gift.
When did you begin to realize you wanted to write?
Very early on. I started writing as a pre-teen and was an A student in English and Literature throughout the years. However, at that time, I didn’t think that I’d write books, I just enjoyed writing — it came very easy to me.
Tell us about your journey to publication.
Sure. In 2007, I was part of a network marketing group and I had built a large team, consisting mostly of women. It seemed as though people asked my advice a lot, and at the same time, I had started thinking about putting that advice into a book so that I could share my thoughts on being graceful, living a wholesome life, enjoying life and the like with others. The desire to write a book seemed to be growing stronger and stronger at that time, but I was so busy with other projects that it seemed like it wasn’t going to happen. Then one day at the hair salon, while under the hair dryer, I pulled out a napkin from my purse and wrote the table of contents for my first book. I then went home and began writing the book, with my blueprint (table of contents) in hand. Within three or four months, I had my first book.
How many books have you written and list the titles?
So far, I’ve written four books:
• “With Style & Amazing Grace”, 2007
• “He’s the Keeper of My Soul”, 2008
• “Jazz, Java & Jesus”, 2009/2010
• “Inspired to Move Forward”, 2013
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I will continue to write books and speak around the country. I don’t have a set number of books that I’ll write in my head, I’ll just keep writing as the Lord gives me things to pen down and share with others.
What advice do you have for aspiring writers?
Just do it. I meet people all of the time who either say that they want to write a book or they’ve written one but it’s still in manuscript form. I think the days of being traditionally published is changing dramatically, so if you don’t want to wait years to be an author by trying to get a publisher to take a chance on your book, then self-publish. And don’t think about being a one-hit wonder. If you know that your writing has value and will benefit and/or entertain others, then be in it for the long haul and plan on continuing to release new books.

Inspired to Move Forward is a book of God’s faithfulness. There are modern day and biblical accounts of when people were faced with some of their toughest battles, and came out victorious.
There’s also a section of where to find certain Scriptures in the Bible so that the reader can start kingdom-living. It’s said that the kingdom of God is voice-activated. You’re going to have to say with your own mouth what God says about you.
For every problem in life, there’s a promise from God.
