Buzzin’ about with Margaret Wesley

Please tell us about your latest book.

My latest book is entitled, I’m Saved..Now What? – Discovering the Keys to Abundant Living. The main character, Mikayla Daniels is a beautiful woman that has used her looks to get everything she wants. Suffering abuse at an early age, she has a skewed view of relationships and uses sex as a means to heal her pain. At a pivotal moment in her life, she accepts Christ as Savior and her journey really begins. She has successes in salvation along with failures and she comes to a breaking point in her life where she literally asks herself, I’m what? This book is all about the reality of salvation and how to navigate the ups and downs that come along the way. In part two of the book, I discuss the steps that believers can take to discover the abundance that comes with salvation.

What truly motivates you in general? In your writing?

My motivation for life and my writing comes from my relationship with God. It was through a battle with a debilitating illness that left me confined to a wheelchair that I discovered my purpose for writing books. As I continue to grow in my walk with God He leads me and gives me the inspiration for the books that I have written.

What are some of your favorite things to do? Do you have a favorite author? Favorite book?

In addition to writing books, I am an avid lover of music and singing. I sing all the time and I find music to be a huge source of inspiration for me. I don’t have a favorite author per se but I enjoy inspirational books from authors such as T.D. Jakes, Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyers. I remember reading Joel Osteen’s book, Your Best Life Now and being inspired to get the best out of the life that God has given me.

Who, if anyone, has influenced your writing? What is the most rewarding thing about being a writer?

As I mentioned, writing was never something that I thought about pursuing as a career but God had a plan for my life. Because I know that this is my purpose, I find so much joy and fulfillment from it. As far as inspiration, it comes directly from God. My methodology for writing is very unique because I only write when I feel led to by the Holy Spirit. I can go three months and not write a single word and then I get inspired and write consistently for a week. It continues to amaze me. The most rewarding thing about being a writer is hearing from people who have read my books and knowing that I am making a difference in someone’s life.

Are there any words of encouragement for unpublished writers?

I would simply say to follow after your dreams. If you believe that you have a book that is going to encourage others and needs to be read, don’t give up on making that vision a reality.

What question would you love to answer that I didn’t ask?

I consider my books as an extension of the ministry that God has called me into. In addition to being a writer, I am also an inspirational speaker and I travel and share my testimony and words of encouragement at retreats, conferences, etc. Currently I am pursuing a Master’s degree in Religion and Biblical studies from Liberty University. My goal is to use the books I write as a source of encouragement with an overall theme of developing an intimate relationship with God.

What can we expect from you in the future?

I just recently finished my fourth book entitled, Through His Eyes – A Love Story which is a continuation of I’m Saved…Now What? and the first installment in the Fruit of the Spirit series. It should be released early 2013. I’ve already started my fifth book and the second installment in the Fruit of the Spirit series which is all about operating in self-control.
