They also have great speed, so they can outrun defenses when called upon to carry the ball. They are often used on pitch plays, reverses, and end-arounds.
Blocking: They can be a big part of the blocking game, since they are close to the line of scrimmage. They can block nickelbacks and other defenders who are trying to blitz the running back or wideout.
